Damla Tuzcu | MA, LMHC

Current Student,  Doctor of Psychoanalysis
Graduate,  Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

I was searching for a master’s program where I could both intellectually and emotionally grow. BGSP’s emotional and experiential model of education fit perfectly with what I was looking for.

BGSP invited me into a community united by a shared passion and curiosity to understand, engage with, and articulate the “human experience.” Psychoanalytic studies and the training process provides one with a vocabulary to not only discuss clinical matters, but all topics related to the humanities; including philosophy, sociology, politics, history, arts, and literature. Process style class environments and entering your own analysis are the most unique aspects of BGSP’s training. During an age where the counseling and psychology world is grappling with the pros and cons of an increasingly medicalized approach to mental well-being, BGSP’s training allows you to experience both sides of the couch prior to wearing a “professional’s” hat. The process of reflecting on your own character and life experience creates a remarkable impact on how you are able to guide all other clinical endeavors.

Specializing in Modern Psychoanalysis has provided me with a strong foundation by allowing me to individualize my stance and interventions to clients in various settings.

Currently, I work as the program director of a therapeutic after school program where I implement a psychoanalytically informed approach to the design and operation of the program for the youth, families, clinicians, and staff I work with. At the same time, I am continuing my education at BGSP by pursuing my clinical doctorate and working with patients in BGSP’s Therapy Center.
