Psychoanalysis from the Couch to the Community: Interventions Require Community

May 7, 2022 @ 10:00 am 12:00 pm

This is an all-virtual event, held via Zoom. CEU’s are available and are paid for upon registering. Registration deadline is Thursday May 5th at midnight. Zoom invitation will be sent out via email on Friday 5/6.

Rewriting the narrative that psychoanalysis belongs solely to the couch has been the foundation of the ongoing implementation of a consultation model for an agency staff and wrap-around system that addresses economic insecurity, homelessness, addiction and reentry from incarceration. This presentation follows up on the birth of the Community Care Network (CCN) as a social container and a relationship builder, seeking to expand in generating a wide healing community.

This follow-up event offers a continued conversation about a community-based and psychoanalytically informed intervention program that’s been running for 7 years and its struggle to survive.   With it, we highlight that integrating psychoanalysis is fundamental to a sustainable, humane and successful practice of community work. With testimonies of consultees, including those from BGSP students, a broader perspective on the work that happens in a consultation model is provided.

Continuing Education Objectives:

The participant will be able to

1. Identify and explore possible personal and systemic resistances that may interfere with working successfully with challenging populations in community- based clinics.

2. Discuss the psychoanalytically informed approach to address homelessness, addiction and reentry from incarceration.

3. Discuss case examples of how this model has worked and how it may apply to your own work.

Free ($25 for 2 CEUs – paid upon registration)
