Best Outcomes: Managing Emotional Factors in Use of Force
Thursday, April 14, 2016
4:00 to 6:00 PM |
A panel discussion examines the emotional factors operating in the use of force in police service. How is it that some officers in highly threatening situations are able to exercise prudence and restraint and achieve an effective outcome, while others are not? To what extent does tactical response training include emotional regulation? How does leadership influence use of force responses? Are we able to psychologically screen applicants most or least able to manage high conflict encounters? What are the possible emotional consequences of appropriately exercised incidents of lethal force, on the officer, the department and the community?
This learning experience is for those interested in police services and corrections as well as for those professionals who seek to be of service to them: therapists, ministers, peer mentors, administrators, policy makers, physicians and other medical personnel. No Charge
