Silence of the Lambs

Silence of the Lambs is only the third film to win Academy Awards in all the top five categories: Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, and Adapted Screenplay.  What is it about this film that succeeds on so many levels—most notably as a horror/crime film on the one hand- and as a brilliant psychological study on the other?  We will explore both the manifest and latent dimensions of the film to help answer that question.

Presenter: 

Ron Goldman, Ed.D has been conducting discussions about Psychology and Film for many years within the context of the Psychology Goes to the Movies series, which he coordinated.  He has a private practice in Brookline and is certified in Emotionally Focused Therapy– an approach to couples therapy built around John Bowlby’s attachment theory and developed by Sue Johnson.

Objectives:

This workshop is designed to help the participants to:

1. Discuss some aspects of how change occurs in psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
2. Analyze the nature of transference and its role in therapy.
3. Describe how childhood trauma manifests itself in adulthood.
