What Psychoanalysis Brings to the World of Mental Health: Work With Impulsivity

This event will be held in Hybrid format: People can attend in-person or on Zoom.

Understanding and treating the impulsive person. Why can’t I do whatever I want? Why do some people act without thinking? How are they a “menace” to other people–and to themselves Why don’t they learn from experience? How can we help them to GROW UP?!

A presentation by Eugene Goldwater, M.D., Cert.Psya. Dr. Goldwater is on the faculty of the Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis.  He has over thirty years clinical experience studying and treating the impulsive person in a variety of settings including mental health agencies and hospitals.

Attendees will be able to:

  1. Recognize impulsive behavior and its potential for harm to self and others.
  2. Discuss what causes impulsive behavior and what maintains it.
  3. Explore what skills are helpful in treating an impulsive person.
  4. Discuss skills parents can use to raise children without serious impulse problems.
