Details

This event reviews how systems psychodynamics thinking can shape culture change in dysfunctional organizations.  It presents a general theory of the sources of dysfunction, ways to address that dysfunction and models of organizational life that can guide continuous improvement. Harry Spence  will give the main presentation, speaking from his vast experience in the field of organizational dynamics and Jane Snyder will be the discussant, drawing on her expertise as a psychoanalyst and president of a psychoanalytic organization.

Presenter:

Harry Spence is a former professor of Practice, Harvard Graduate School of Education, Doctor of Education Leadership Program, Lecturer, Harvard Kennedy School of Government, Deputy Chancellor of the New York City School System; Receiver for the City of Chelsea; Receiver for the Boston Housing Authority; Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Social Services; Court Administrator of the Massachusetts Trial Court and other public and private sector leadership positions.  He serves on Boards at Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute, National Center for Education and the Economy and Austen Riggs Hospital.

Jane Snyder, Ph.D., Cert. Psya. is the President of the Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis where she has been on the faculty and a supervisory and training psychoanalyst for twenty two years. She has worked in varied clinical settings for over 30 years.  She has written and presented on managing negative transference and countertransference feelings and working with action oriented people, skills which are useful in leadership roles in organizations.  She is very interested in applying psychodynamic understanding to working with organizational dynamics.

Continuing Education Objectives: 

Participants will be able to:

  1. Identify and discuss various components of psychodynamic thinking which shape culture in organizations.
  2. Identify and discuss methods to address dysfunction in organizations.
  3. Identify and discuss models of working with organizations that can guide continuous improvement and apply these to personal experiences.

This event is not qualify for NBCC credit.
