Brian T. Jones | MA

Graduate, Master of Arts in Psychoanalytic Counseling*

After graduating From West Chester University with an M.A. in Philosophy, I wanted to pursue further training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. I had a fascination with the analytic model and desired to train in an institution where I could apply theory with real-world practice. While searching various psychoanalytic institutes, I found BGSP. I became interested in the approach and theory of psychoanalysis coupled with the practical approach of work with schizophrenia.

As a clinician, I learned that good clinical practice requires awareness of the here-and-now. With every client, I ensure that presence is primary to the treatment process. This requires a balancing of the drives, tension regulation, and gradual reintegration. I have learned how to be a better clinician, given my ability to tolerate any person that walks in my door.

Currently, I teach Psychology and Philosophy at MassBay Community College at the Wellesley Hills campus. In addition, I am a psychotherapist at the MassBay’s Framingham campus. I conduct short-term and long-term psychotherapy. In addition to work responsibilities, I conduct research focusing on the social status among homeless population. Finally, I am a contributing author for the Dx Summit online journal. I have written several articles focusing on stress regulation, mental health policy, and critiques of DSM diagnostics.

*This degree is now entitled Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling
