BGSP Faculty Member Elected President-Elect of Psychologists for Social Responsibility. Today the Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis (BGSP) announced that Professor Dr. Stephen Soldz has been elected President-Elect of Psychologists for Social Responsibility (PsySR). Dr. Soldz assumed his new position at PsySR’s annual meeting this weekend in Toronto.

PsySR is an independent non-profit organization of over 800 psychologists and other mental health professionals headquartered in Washington, DC. PsySR applies psychological knowledge and expertise to the pursuit of peace, social justice and human rights while simultaneously seeking to transform the psychology profession to be more responsive to contemporary social and ethical problems. PsySR is part of an International Psychologists for Social Responsibility network of like-minded organizations.

BGSP Faculty Member Presents at a Psychoanalytic Conference in Costa Rica. BGSP faculty member Rodrigo Barahona was invited to present at the Center for Psychoanalytic Studies of the Costa Rican Association for Sociocritical Psychology, in San Jose, Costa Rica, on February 2, 2009. This paper, entitled "Forgetting Margarita, or shared unconscious fantasy: when resistance is an artifact of the analytic interaction", will also be presented at the Universidad Fransisco Marroquin on July 1 and Universidad Rafael Landivar on July 2, in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Dr. Barahona will also present at the 32nd Interamerican Congress of Psychology in Guatemala City on June 29. There he will discuss "Attitudes Towards War, Peace, and Torture in Costa Rica", a paper that will appear as a chapter in the forthcoming State Violence and the Right to Peace: An International Survey of the Views of Ordinary People. Greenwood Publishing Group/Praeger series.

Harvard Law School panel discussion to feature BGSP professor. Professor Stephen Soldz will join three other medical professionals with whom he co-wrote "Interrogations, Forced Feedings, and the Role of Health Professionals" on Wednesday, March 18th at 6pm at Harvard Law School. As they launch their new book, the panelists will discuss the involvement of health professionals in human rights and humanitarian law violations. More information on the event can be found here.

BGSP Professor Stephen Soldz to receive Brookline PAX Community Service Award in recognition of exemplary progressive achievement. Dr. Soldz will be receiving the award for organizing the American Psychological Association's condemnation of psychologist participation in “enhanced interrogation”. Dr. Soldz will be accepting the award on Sunday, February 22nd at the Brookline PAX Annual Meeting.
